Police peg price around $800,000

A 59-year-old Ottawa man is facing numerous charges after the Mounties and city police seized several kilograms of drugs, and a large amount of cigarettes and cash.

Police arrested a man in a building on Chapel Street where they allegedly seized $80,000 in cash, 20,000 contraband cigarettes, 27 kg of marijuana, four kg of cocaine, and two kg of hashish, according to Ottawa Police Staff-Sgt. Pete Gauthier.

“That’s quite a bit of drugs seized,” said Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. J.J. Hainey. “Normally, we don’t give a street value, but just to get a sense, it’s probably about $800,000 for all the drugs seized.”

Graham Malcolm MacEachern, 59, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and other charges. City police and RCMP drug units executed a search warrant following a 20-month investigation.

The Ottawa RCMP Customs and Excise Section is continuing the investigation into the contraband cigarettes seized.
