Drummer anxious to play in Edmonton

Greg Alsop, drummer for Ontario band Tokyo Police Club, can’t wait to get to Alberta.

The indie rock group will be in Edmonton this weekend for Sonic Boom, a one-day festival at Northlands.

“All of Alberta has been really supportive. We’ve never had anything but incredible shows there,” Alsop said. “The people are a little less reserved out there. Toronto sometimes can be a little bit withholding, they’re into it but they’re not really letting go. Calgary and Edmonton have always been the exact opposite of that.”

Alsop said their new record Champ is different from their first album, Elephant Shell, because the band was able to break out of their self-created mould.

Their show starts at 2:50 p.m. The festival kicks off at noon with The Dirty Heads and ends with Rise Against at 9:20 p.m. Gates open at 11 a.m.
