Dutch players to join FC Edmonton

The Dutch exodus from the old country continues to the benefit of Edmonton’s newest professional team, FC Edmonton.

Three players from the Netherlands put pen to paper on contracts with the new soccer club, which officially starts play in the NASL in 2011.

Tom Fath, FC Edmonton founder, said the club isn’t ready to release the players’ names yet but an official announcement will be coming soon.

“They’re bringing a very high level of experience,” Fath said. “They’ve each played for a number of years in Europe at a very high level.”

Fath said not only will they be players on the squad, the potential for them to teach FC Edmonton’s young players as coaches is another possibility.

“We’re very excited by it,” Fath said. “For the Dutch, one of their greatest exports is their people. They’re excited about coming to Canada.”

The three players will be joining FC Edmonton this season as the club is working on scheduling some exhibition games.
