Away We Go
Director: Sam Mendes

Dramatically inclined director Sam Mendes veers wildly off track with this attempt at a road comedy depicting narcissistic layabouts seeking advice for their impending parenthood.

Vacuous Verona (Maya Rudolph) and bumbling Burt (John Krasinski) at least have good hearts and genuine chemistry; most of the people they meet on their twee trek are hateful or pathetic stereotypes.

This a trip to dead-end Quirkville, where nobody is allowed to be a real human being because it would spoil the illusion of Verona and Burt being the last of the innocent lovers.

The film is penned by real-life couple Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, successful authors who should stick to their day jobs. Extras include a commentary with Mendes, Eggers and Vida, plus two featurettes.
