Night At the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
Director: Shawn Levy

Expectations are the devil’s playground. The original Night at the Museum arrived in 2006 with zero indication of fun, seeming to be a witless CGI fest helmed by Shawn Levy. But with Ben Stiller in the lead role of a security guard spooked by supernatural mischief that animated the antiquities, it turned out to be a bit of a hoot.

So what happened with the sequel? The script, mainly. Levy and Stiller are back, as are most of the name cameos, but the story that moves the action from New York to Washington, D.C. lost something in the relocation. It’s now a disjointed series of frantic CGI bits, even with the talents like Amy Adams and Christopher Guest.

Extras include 12 deleted scenes, an alternate ending, featurettes and commentaries.
