Taking Woodstock
Director: Ang Lee

Extremely Trivial Pursuit: Who rented the motel rooms to the guys who did the Woodstock Festival?

Elliot Teichberg, sweetly rendered in Taking Woodstock by comedian Demetri Martin, was that momentous innkeeper of the El Monaco motel. Ang Lee’s enshrinement of this fact owes more to his desire to make a comic film after numerous dramas than to any serious pursuit of history.

With no real point to make, Lee and screenwriter James Schamus simply get high from the fumes, offering a character-rich ramble that’s more like Robert Altman’s Nashville than Michael Wadleigh’s Woodstock.
