You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger
Director: Woody Allen
Stars: Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin
It’s not that You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger is so bad, because it’s really not. But neither is it terribly interesting, despite the presence of such capable talent as Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas and Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto.
Overwritten and under-realized, it’s Allen in desultory word-processor mode, barely able to muster even his usual amount of resigned cynicism about this crazy ol’ life. Or rather afterlife, which is the dull hook for the year’s summoning of the ensemble acting troops. The whole movie seems a mere set-up for the title joke, which involves a certain hooded gent that attends all of our funerals.
