Eagles soar to third straight girls hockey title

The Auburn Drive Eagles have captured their third straight Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation girls hockey title.

Lyndsay Leblanc, Cassie Banfield and Rebecca Sweet scored and Amanda Conrad earned the win in goal as the Eagles beat King’s-Edgehill 3-2 in the final yesterday in Inverness.

“For a lot of the girls right now, it’s almost a surreal situation,” Eagles head coach Kevin MacNeil said. “We’ve got a great core of kids and four of them (Banfield, Jenna Brink, Sarah Maynard and Alyssa MacNeil) have won three straight. It’s a terrific accomplishment for all of them.”

At Yarmouth, the Millwood Knights edged past the Charles P. Allen Cheetahs 2-1 to capture their second title in the past three seasons and third in seven years. Kyle Peverill and Jeremy Thomas scored for Millwood.

“Every time you win it, it feels just as good as the last one,” Knights head coach Larry Marchand said. “It’s a long road to get here and to get it done is just amazing.”
