Upon entering Inglewood lunch spot Eat! Eat!, a friendly, “Hello! Sit anywhere you’d like” from the waitress sets the tone for a cozy and down-to-earth meal.

Arriving at noon ensures I have beaten the lunch rush at this usually hopping joint. The inviting, bright yellow walls are decorated with artwork available for purchase by local artists, and add to the quirkiness of the place.

Perusing the menu is a treat: With breakfast options offered all day long, and many sandwiches, salads and daily soups to choose from, Eat! Eat! keeps things fresh, tasty and interesting. The lunch special on this particular day is a Monte Cristo with choice of side, but having been here before, I opt for the always-pleasing lasagna.

The cheesy, saucy, meaty piece of lasagna, cooked to perfection in a mini casserole dish, is accompanied by a fresh side salad covered in maple balsamic dressing and a large piece of garlic toast — made mama-style with real garlic rubbed on the bread after toasting. At $10, it’s a steal.

All items on the menu are have that “comfort food” flavour, made with home-cooked care and goodness. You can choose your own cheese, from mozzarella to cheddar, for a grilled-to-perfection grilled cheese, and their oozy, baked French Onion soup is conjured up from scratch.

If there is room for dessert after lunch, try the home made, decadent apple pie with ice cream.
The coffee here is also great — always fresh and made using fair-trade organic beans. The Eat! Eat! staff add to its undeniable charm, and even as the eatery fills up to near-capacity, the attentiveness of the waitresses doesn’t wane.

A great place to catch up with friends or to enjoy a solo meal, Eat! Eat!’s unpretentious vibe, friendly servers and consistently good comfort food make it the perfect lunch spot. Eat! Eat! is definitely a treat treat!
