Food scientists have created so-called “friendly bacteria” that can be added to yogurt to help people lose weight, according to weekend reports.

CORK, IRELAND – Food scientists have created so-called “friendly bacteria” that can be added to yogurt to help people lose weight, according to weekend reports.

Researchers found they could alter a certain type of bacteria — which is found naturally in the human gut and in probiotic yogurts — to produce a type of molecule known to reduce a body’s fat tissue levels.

The breakthrough has been made by the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority and Cork University. Dr Catherine Stanton said it was hoped they could produce new types of yogurts that could reduce obesity.
