In its heyday, it was the epitome of Yorkville showbiz chic. But now, 23 years after Michael Carlevale opened the doors, it’s time to say “arrivederci, Prego.”

The end came abruptly on March 31, when Kevric Real Estate Corp., the company that manages the plaza at 150 Bloor St. W., opted not to extend the lease of the eatery. The company also runs part of the adjacent condo building at 175 Cumberland St.

Kevric is also involved in a legal battle with residents who have lost their parking privileges since Kevric took charge.

Prego is not the only tenant to have vanished from 150 Bloor St. W. Also gone are the Irish Shop, a jewelry store, a Telus store, and many offices on upper floors.

Insiders say Kevric is redeveloping the plaza and seeking a major company with a global brand name and the capacity to pay top rent.
