Mother’s Day finds
With Mother’s Day just a few sleeps away (it’s this Sunday), a couple of unusual west-end shopping events are worth investigating:

  • Inspirations Studio, a mentoring program for women in transition launching their own craft businesses (part of Sistering Toronto) is holding their semi-annual ceramics sale this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 9, 10 and 11) from noon to 5 p.m. each day. Prices range from $5 to $100, including dishes, vases, décor items, jewellery and handmade cards.
    Where:
761 Queen St. W., second floor (near Euclid Ave.)
  • The Heart of Craft sale showcases eco-friendly products and gifts (lots of creative recycling) handmade by local crafter/designers. Sixteen vendors will be offering up eco-chic wearables, paper goods, natural cosmetics and more. This event is organized and hosted by Heart on Your Sleeve, a green boutique located at 61A Bellevue Ave. in Kensington Market.
When: Saturday (May 10) from noon to 6 p.m.
    Info at: www.heartonyoursleeve.ca or 416-999-2197.

Shop ’Til It Stops
In its continued efforts to support the Canadian Women’s Foundation Shelter from the Storm campaign, Winners/ HomeSense Canada has committed to donating a percentage of today’s retail sales to the CWF. So, if you’re planning to get your Mother’s Day gift or something fab for yourself at Winners this week, go TODAY, and know that you’re shopping for a good cause (to prevent and end the cycle of violence against women). And, if you use your BMO Mosaik Mastercard to pay for your purchase, BMO will donate an additional amount to raise more funds for Shelter from the Storm. Visit: www.shelterfromthestorm.ca

Cupcakes for a Cause
Local Baking outfit Eat My Words will be selling their food and delightfully decorated cupcakes and cookies this Saturday (May 10) at Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke to benefit the Stephen Lewis Foundation. So, whether you’re looking for a big-hearted and yummy treat for your mom or yourself, definitely scoot to the mall where these amazing edibles —- usually only available online — will be sold for one day only (right across from European Jewellery). Money raised will help the SLF support programs for orphans and people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Prices: $4 and up. Visit www.eatmywords.org.
