Edmonton acquires Ryan Whitney from Anaheim for Lubomir Visnovsky

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers acquired Ryan Whitney from the Anaheim Ducks for Lubomir Visnovsky on Wednesday, an exchange of defencemen with long-term deals.

Edmonton also received a sixth-round pick in the 2010 draft.

The 27-year-old Whitney carries a salary cap hit of $4 million over the next three years and joins his third NHL team. The U.S. Olympian has four goals and 28 points in 62 games with the Ducks this season.

Visnovsky put up 10 goals and 32 points in 57 games. He’s a little more expensive – counting $5.6 million against the cap over the next three seasons.
