Education students to protest at legislature

Education students will rally at the Alberta legislature today in protest of proposed budget cuts.

The University of Alberta students will gather on the steps of the provincial building from noon to 2 p.m. today, urging officials to “stop the cuts.”

Speakers include Alberta NDP Leader Brian Mason, Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann, Alberta Teachers’ Association president Sharon Armstrong and Alberta NDP MLA Rachel Notley.

Proposed cuts include $80 million to Alberta Education this year, and over $300 million next year. The group feels children, families and graduates hoping to enter the teaching profession will be at a loss if the cuts are approved.
