Eight people have been arrested and charged in connection with what police are calling a “criminal network” working within Toronto’s Pearson airport.

The Toronto Airport Drug Enforcement Unit says it has charged eight people with drug related offences for the importation, exportation and trafficking of ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana.

Supt. Ron Allen says seven of the suspects, who were arrested Thursday after police executed search warrants, worked at the airport and “had access to restricted areas.” He says four also are facing theft charges after police allegedly found stolen personal items from luggage.

  • Ron Allen says his department is aware that other criminal groups are operating out of the airport. He says American and Canadian law enforcement have been investigating this particular case since 2006.
