The hospital can be a pretty boring place for William Kinsella.
The four-year-old spent the last week at the Stollery Children’s Hospital while waiting for treatment for an infected femur bone.
Add an IV drip to the mix, and you have one frustrated kid, said his father, Doug.
“He’s normally pretty active,” he said. “Being tethered to the IV was excruciating for him. We have to work hard to keep him amused.”
The Jolly Trolley portable entertainment centre should help.
Rogers Plus, in partnership with the Sony Canada Charitable Foundation, donated 40 entertainment centres on trolleys to hospitals across Canada yesterday.
The units feature are a 32-inch Bravia high-definition LCD television, the latest PlayStation 3 game console with Blu-ray disc and DVD, and an extensive library of movies and games.
The idea is to make a hospital stay more positive, said Child Life team leader Dianne Tuterra.
“We want to promote normalization,” she said. “What’s most normal for children is to play.
Being able to watch a movie or play a game means they are still children.”
