Entry fee dropped for debate

Organizers of a municipal candidates’ debate on Sept. 13 have dropped a $10 entry fee after a number of participants expressed reluctance to participate in a paid-entry event.

The charge was primarily to cover the cost of holding the event at city hall, but any remaining funds would have been used by the Ottawa Taxpayer Advocacy Group “to advance our mandate,” said spokesperson Ade Olumide.

Having already debated members of OTAG once, Alex Cullen said he still has no plans to attend the event. Cesar Bello also withdrew because of the entry fee.

Clive Doucet, Jim Watson, Larry O’Brien, Stan Pioro, Robin Lawrence, Jane Scharf, Mike Maguire and Charlie Taylor have all confirmed their attendance.

Doucet will also be joining Cullen, Watson and O’Brien for a debate on Sept. 12 at the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage.
