Police officers have shot Richard Matt dead in a remote area of New York’s Franklin County and are still in pursuit of David Sweat, reports the New York Times. Sources told the Times that Matt, who was armed with a shotgun, was killed in a “burst of gunfire by law enforcement officers.”
Officers found items they believed were dropped by Matt and Sweat after they robbed a cabin in Malone, New York, on Friday morning, reports CNN.
It is believed that the escaped killers were en route to Canada. Authorities are still searching for Sweat in the Malone area.
