Eskimos fans asked to help tackle hunger

While the Eskimos tackle Saskatchewan on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium, fans will get to tackle hunger across Edmonton.

Teaming up with the Edmonton Eskimos, Purolator’s Tackle Hunger Program is back for its eighth season to encourage everyone coming to the game to donate non-perishable food or money to the Food Bank.

“This year we’re looking to do over 80,000 pounds of food,” said Brian Collins, marketing specialist with Purolator.

At the Food Bank Thursday, Eskimos quarterback Ricky Ray and Collins took part in a challenge to see who could pull out the top-10 items the Food Bank is seeking for the school snack programs.

“I’ve been doing this for the past few years and it’s just a great way to help support your community,” said Ray.

Fans who bring a food or monetary donation will have their picture taken with the Grey Cup (at Gate 10), and will have their name entered in a draw to win Ricky Ray’s signed jersey or tickets to the Grey Cup game.

Donation stations will be set up at any of the gates.
