The Edmonton Eskimos have signed Saint Mary’s Huskies safety Saleem Borhot, according to the Edmonton Journal.

The six-foot-three, 195-pound Calgary native had two interceptions and 24 tackles in eight games as a fourth-year member of the Huskies this past season.

He was not ranked by CFL scouting heading into the draft on May 2 and was something of a surprise second-round choice (12th overall) of the Eskimos.

The Eskimos have high hopes for Borhot after the draft-day retirement of veteran safety Scott Gordon.

The Eskimos’ roster also feature former Saint Mary’s linebacker Tim St. Pierre.
