Eskimos to open camp this weekend

Football fever is taking hold in Edmonton with the Eskimos 2009 Training Camp just around the corner.

The Training Camp will kick off Saturday, with player medicals and fan day. Rookie players are arriving as early as today.

Canadian Football League commissioner Mark Cohon was in town yesterday and told media the league is on track and “well-positioned” despite the recession.

“We think we’ll come out stronger from this economy,” Cohon said, adding the the CFL is coping much better in Edmonton where ticket sales remain “affordable.”

“Our league strives to deliver real value for families, by being affordable, accessible and, most of all, authentic, an important part of the fabric of this nation for a century,” Cohon said.

The 98th Grey Cup is coming to Edmonton in 2010 and Cohon said the city will be “a great venue for their fourth Cup.”

The Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers square off here in a home opener on July 2.
