High-tech graphic designs and contemporary metalwork are joining forces for a year-end celebration show.
Students of Vancouver Community College’s jewelry design and digital graphic design programs are celebrating the end of a school year and graduation by showcasing their months of hard work.
From large wearable pieces of jewelry to graphic designs incorporating wallpaper, the show will feature pieces that will be far from “traditional gold rings and what not,” said Arleigh Kurucz, a jewelry program graduate.
“Everyone is brand new so the pieces are fresh and enthusiastic,” said Rochelle Garrison, a digital graphic design graduate. “Everyone has a different background so you really get a variety of work.”
Kurucz’s display will showcase pieces based on labyrinths with her main pieces being acid-etched sterling silver with gold plating.
“It’s titled ‘Walk On Your Path,’ and it’s a fitting to end my two years with a theme based on journeys,” she added.
“It’s a work show with purpose. It’s art as communication,” said Garrison.
The VCC Jewelry and Digital Graphic Design Show is free and runs until June 7 at the main lobby of the college’s downtown campus, located at Dunsmuir Street and Hamilton Street. The college closes at 10 p.m.
