Convicted prostitute killer Thomas Svekla’s latest trial, for the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old girl, may be halted, as videotape evidence has mysteriously disappeared.
The 40-year-old made headlines last summer when he was convicted for the murder of 36-year-old sex trade worker Theresa Innes. Svekla pleaded not guilty to the unrelated sex assault charges when trial began last week.
Investigators lost a video tape, in which the now 18-year-old victim was interviewed by police in 1996.
Queen’s Bench Justice Mel Binder is expected to make a decision on the stay of proceedings tomorrow.
