Former Halifax Mooseheads star goaltender Jeremy Duchesne has earned his first NHL call-up.

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled the 23-year-old from the American Hockey League’s Adirondack Phantoms because of an ankle injury to starter Michael Leighton. He is expected to back up incumbent Brian Boucher tonight when the Flyers visit the Dallas Stars.

Johan Backlund, who is the Phantoms’ starter and ahead of Duchesne in the NHL pecking order, is also hurt.

The 2005 fourth-round draft choice of the Flyers has spent most of this season in the ECHL and has a 3.20 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in 19 starts.

Duchesne spent parts of three seasons with the Mooseheads and is tied for third in career victories with 49.
