Ex-Idol hopeful loves to cook, juice

Ashley Coulter

Ashley Coulter of Windsor, Ont., was in The Top 6 of the 2006 Canadian Idol competition.

Q: What is your fondest memory from your family kitchen?

A: When I was younger, we had a pear tree growing in our front yard. We would go outside and collect them and then my mom would can them. Every morning we would have pears for breakfast before we went to school.

Q: Who is your favourite cook?

A: Me! I enjoy cooking and I tend to be picky about how my food is prepared so when I cook I get full control of the meal.

Q: What’s your favourite food to cook?

A: I love cooking butternut squash in the oven with lots of butter. It’s amazing! I never use cookbooks. It’s more fun to go the trial and error route.

Q: How did the first meal you prepared turn out?

A: Terrible. I attempted to make roast beef dinner and Yorkshire pudding. It was gross.

Q: What kitchen gadget can’t you live without?

A: I love my wooden juicer … for juicing oranges and lemons to put in my morning shakes.
