A former inmate is heading a class-action lawsuit against the province on behalf of prisoners who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of an employee at the now-closed Oakalla prison in Burnaby.

The plaintiff, who is identified by the initials E.D.L., names Roderick David MacDougall in the suit.

The former prison employee was convicted on nine counts of sexual or indecent assault for offences that spanned 21 years.

MacDougall approved day passes for inmates as bribes for oral sex.
