Ex-teacher charged with sexual assault

A retired North Vancouver high school teacher is facing a trio of sex-related charges involving a student.

Victor Wiens, 63, who retired from teaching at Sutherland Secondary in the spring of 2009, is charged with sexual assault, invitation to touching and sexual exploitation of a female high school student.

“This case involves the alleged victimization of a child,” said RCMP Cpl. Peter DeVries. “It represents one of the greatest fears that we as parents face. We must place a priority on protecting the well-being of this child.”

RCMP want to speak with any students who may have experienced inappropriate conduct with the teacher.

Wiens taught in the North Vancouver School District for 28 years. He had been at Sutherland for at least five years and prior to that was an itinerant music teacher who taught classes at several schools.
