When the Metro Centre hosted American Basketball Association all-star weekend in 2007, an estimated 5,500 fans turned out for the two-day event.

That was before the Halifax Rainmen had ever played a game in the facility.

Three years later, the Rainmen have three professional seasons under their belt, improving their average attendance from 1,810 to 3,292, and are no longer in the ABA.

Expectations are understandably high as they prepare to host the Premier Basketball League’s inaugural all-star weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Metro Centre.

“It’s a great weekend to have it with nothing else going on,” said Rainmen all-star Eric Crookshank. “I think it’s going to be a great turnout.”
