The big players in the fight against gang crime descended on Mount Royal College with a goal to find the solution to Alberta's growing gang problem.
"Were we too reactive in the past? Probably," said Calgary police chief Rick Hanson.
"Calgary needs to look to the future and deal with the gang problems that are coming, pointing to the U.S. as a warning of what could be."
Alberta's Minister of Justice Alison Redford is among the ministers and experts to speak at the two-day summit.
"One of our goals is to respond to the immediate challenges and then to see our way forward so that we don't end up with a situation where things are worse in 10 years than they are now."
