Residents of a west-end Toronto street were shaken from their beds after an explosion and fire in a home being renovated sent debris flying across the street.

Several homes in the Indian Road and Garden Avenue area were evacuated as firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze that started about 3 a.m.

Crews managed to get the fire under control but only the outer brick walls of the home are left standing.

The flames spread to a next door house, gutting one of the upstairs bedrooms. There were no reported injuries.
