Explosives found near Calgary transit lines

Several active Improvised Explosive Devices were found along
a stretch of Calgary transit line between Heritage and Southland LRT stations
Monday evening.

A Calgary Transit employee made the discovery around 7:30
p.m. Monday and immediately alerted transit officials to halt all trains from
passing through the area.

Police were dispatched to the area and found two of the
devices had been detonated, and then called in the Tactical Explosives Unit to
safely detonate the remaining devices.

Police don’t believe the devices would have caused serious
damage to trains.

The Calgary Police Service is providing more details at a
news conference in Calgary Tuesday morning.

More to come.
