Remember Facebook groups? There was one for just about anything (I speak in abbrevs, Gingers for Life, If This Group Reaches 10,000 then Iran will buy us all Ice-Cream). We all joined our share.
A new study, though, reports group-joining and a number of other Facebook activities are on the decline. According to Mashable, Global Web Index analyzed Facebook activity from July 2009 to June 2011 and found group-joining was down among users 12.8 percent in the U.S. and 6.5 percent worldwide.
Other activities that users are doing less of include:
-- Virtual gift-giving (down 12.9 percent in the U.S., 7.5 percent worldwide)
-- Messaging to friends (down 14.8 percent in the U.S. and 7.4 percent worldwide)
-- Searching for new contacts (down 12.7 percent in the U.S. and 4.5 percent worldwide)
-- Installing an app (down 10.4 percent in the U.S. and 3.1 percent worldwide)
-- Instant messaging (down 7.5 percent in the U.S. and 1.5 percent worldwide)
The decline was most prevalent among college graduates under the age of 30. The only activity that saw significant increase was video uploading, up 5 percent in the U.S. and 7.6 percent worldwide.
