Fair held to spread health info to Chinese community

A health fair that focused on, in part, the H1N1 virus was held in Burnaby yesterday for Mandarin- and Cantonese-speaking Lower Mainlanders.

The event, which focused on infections, was organized by immigrants’ group SUCCESS and local medical organizations.

“Over the past 18 years, Health Fair has been an excellent opportunity for the Chinese communities in Greater Vancouver to obtain health-related information that might not be available in their languages,” said Dr. Susan Kwan, co-chair of Health Fair 2009.

The free event featured sessions on diabetes-related infections, pediatric immunizations, hepatitis, the HPV vaccine and hypertension. It also included 30 exhibitors, and 17 lectures and workshops.

Last year, it attracted 2,500 people.
