They lost their lives while working to keep our communities safe.

Nineteen law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty were recognized yesterday morning during a memorial service on Parliament Hill. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews addressed the thousands in attendance and said, “We must never forget the ultimate sacrifice they have made to protect our citizens from those who undermine the safety of our communities.”

Const. Eric Czapnik’s name has already been added to the national memorial, a wall of plaques on a fence overlooking the Ottawa River.
