Family members are mourning the loss of two toddlers they allege were drowned in a Millet home Monday.
“It’s about as brutal as brutal gets,” said Jason McConnell, cousin to Curtis McConnell, a father devastated by the unexpected deaths of his two sons.
RCMP “K” Division Cpl. Wayne Oakes said two bodies were found Monday afternoon in a home located at 5107 – 52 Street.
Police have not confirmed the ages or identities of the two deceased. Autopsies were performed yesterday afternoon, but the cause of death has not been released.
Curtis and his wife Allyson McConnell — the couple who own the home — had recently separated, Curtis’ cousin Ryan Eagle said. He added Allyson allegedly wanted to take the boys, Conner, 3, and Jayden, 1, to her native Australia, though Curtis wanted his children to stay in Canada.
By Monday night, Eagle said, word of the tragedy had spread through the family: The boys had allegedly been drowned in the bathtub by their mother, who then tried to take her own life, they claimed.
Police tape surrounded a silver Chrysler 300 found in a south-side parking lot Monday.
Media reports suggest an unidentified woman parked the car, then jumped from the Gateway Boulevard overpass to Whitemud Drive in an apparent suicide attempt.
Eagle confirmed the vehicle belongs to Curtis McConnell.
Jason says the grieving father is “hanging in there, but not doing that great,” adding Curtis wasn’t yet ready to speak publicly.
Eagle says the couple were “all around family people” who kept to themselves.
“He loved his kids to death,” Eagle said Cpl. Oakes said investigation is ongoing, and said no charges have been laid.
