Family of slain man pleads for information

Rino (Ray) Johnson was likely out hunting for bargain items to fix up and re-sell in his flea market stand when he was beaten to death this weekend, his family said yesterday.

Police say the 77-year-old’s body was found Saturday afternoon in an industrial area in Ramsay, not in the same area where the murder occurred.

The victim’s grandson, Tracy Johnson, spoke to the media yesterday, pleading for someone who saw the assault on his grandfather to come forward.

“This is just absolutely shocking to our family and we need to have closure as quickly as we can,” he said.

“If these guys (the suspects) would have said that they needed some money, I’m confident that he would have helped. He helped everybody out.”

Insp. Guy Slater said it’s possible that something may have gone wrong with a deal the victim was making.

“We’re focusing on tracing his activities during the 36-hour period from about noon on Friday until we found his body,” Slater said.
