Fans gear up for frosty West final

Thousands of Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders fans alike will be sporting their team’s colours over top of multiple layers of clothing for the sold-out CFL West Final at McMahon Stadium this Sunday.

SAIT student Mark Wolf, 23, said he and some buddies still plan to attend the game, even though Environment Canada predicts temperatures will likely have dipped below -15 C come kickoff time.

“I’m wearing all my snowboard gear and then just throwing a jersey over the top,” he said.
“It should be rowdy and I think everyone’s going to be drinking to keep warm.”

Wolf, a season-ticket holder, watched as his Stamps battled to the No. 1 seed in the West Division during the regular season. He anticipates a low-scoring affair this Sunday.

“There should be a lot of running because of the cold … but it should be a pretty close game,” he said.

The winner of the West Final will advance to the 98th Grey Cup, in Edmonton on Nov. 28.
