Two-time MVP promotes his gym

The rain didn’t stop fans of Steve Nash from lining up on Granville Street yesterday to catch a glimpse of the basketball star at the unveiling of his exclusive new gym.
The two-time National Basketball Association MVP and Phoenix Suns point guard signed autographs, toured the facility and test-drove some of the state-of-the-art exercise equipment.
The 38,500-square-foot downtown club is set up to mirror Nash’s own health philosophy based on a balance between exercise, nutritious diet and living an eco-friendly lifestyle.
“I saw this space when it was just beams and dust,” said the Victoria native. “The vision is to create a first-class facility and provide the city with something new.”
So far, the centre has recruited almost 1,000 members, and low-end fees will likely run around $100 to $135 per month.
Plans to open franchises elsewhere in the province are in the works.
Nash is also the founder of the Steve Nash Foundation, which helps underprivileged children in health, education and personal development.
The foundation’s Charity Classic basketball fundraiser will take place tomorrow at GM Place.
