Fantasy film Babine leads Jutra nods

The fantasy film “Babine” has been nominated in nine categories – the most of any of the nominees – for the 2009 Jutra Awards, which recognizes excellence in Quebec film.

Among the other nominees for “Babine” are Vincent-Guillaume Otis for best actor, Fred Pellerin for best screenplay and Luc Picard, who was also the film’s director, for best supporting actor.

The film also took several technical nods such as best sound and best art direction.

“Babine” didn’t get nominated in the best film category, with that honour going to “Borderline,” “Ce qu’il faut pour vivre,” “C’est pas moi, je le jure!” and “Maman est chez le coiffeur.”

American Susan Sarandon is among the nominees in the best actress category for her work in “Emotional Arithmetic.” Also up for the award are Isabelle Blais (“Borderline”); Suzanne Clement (“C’est pas moi, je le jure!”); and Guylaine Tremblay (“Le Grand depart”.)

Other nominees for best actor include Michel Cote (“Cruising Bar 2”); Alexis Martin (“Le Banquet”); and Natar Ungalaaq (“Ce qu’il faut pour vivre”).

The Jutra Awards will be handed out March 29.
