During the final years of her life, Elizabeth Taylor struck up a close friendship with actor Colin Farrell — so close that, at her request, Farrell recited a poem at her funeral last week, according to Access Hollywood.

"How did we become friends? You know, the old story of boy meets girl, and boy pesters girl with too many phone calls at inappropriate hours of the night," Farrell says of his friendship with Taylor. "I was just lucky enough to become her friend in the last year and a half. I adore her still." As for the poem, Farrell admits it was a bit of a tongue-twister: "Elizabeth chose it. It was a tricky poem as well," Farrell says. "Even in passing she had me under the thumb, sweating bricks."
