Fashion: Red carpet at the Met Gala

Celebs, glitterati and fashion bigwigs came out last night for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala. This year, the grand dame of dress-up nights honored the late Alexander McQueen, who is the subject of the museum’s latest exhibition “Savage Beauty.” Trends from the night included: feathers, red, gold and minimalist gowns. But our favorite looks were the ones that brought drama and theatrics — after all, it was a party for McQueen.

Gisele Bundchen was the night’s showstopper in a red Alexander McQueen gown. We were actually surprised that more attendees didn’t show up in the designer’s creations.

Anna Wintour, in shiny Chanel Haute Couture, shows us why she ’s got fashion’s top job.

Daphne Guinness, in a feathered Alexander McQueen gown with those crazy, heel-less Alexander McQueen shoes, got dressed earlier in the day in a Barney’s window.

Who cares if Beyonce couldn’t really walk in her Emilio Pucci dress — she looked like a mermaid-princess-warrior! And we’re kind of loving Jay-Z with hair.

Blake Lively, in a toga-inspired Chanel Haute Couture dress, posed with her “date,” Karl Lagerfeld, in Tom Ford.

Being named People’s Most Beautiful seems to have put a little thunder back in J.Lo’s step — she brought it in magenta Gucci.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel looks perfectly pretty … but also kinda like a 40-year-old mom.

This is one of the minimal dresses we didn’t mind: Zoe Saldana, in Calvin Klein Collection, looks awesome in colors. Remember her lavender Oscar gown?

Jessica Szohr, in a cute Topshop Unique dress, is killing us with those shoes. Fire your stylist, girl.

Elle Fanning (left) and Dakota Fanning, both in Valentino, knocked it out of the park! Dakota could use a little more blush and lipstick, though.

Christina Ricci looked like a sexy, goth spider in her intricate black Zac Posen gown. You can tell she knows she looks good.

Ginnifer Goodwin looks so punk in this Topshop Unique emerald dress, which is a refreshing change from the girl-next-door types she plays on the big screen.

The evening’s Honorary Chair, Salma Hayek, in Alexander McQueen certainly married the right man. We can only imagine her dope wardrobe.
