One person is dead following a crash that has shut down a major highway leading into Toronto.

The driver of a car was killed after plowing into the back of a tractor-trailer on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Mississauga, Ont.

The crash happened at about 7 a.m. and it could be several hours before the eastbound lanes of the busy highway are re-opened.

Police say the tractor-trailer was not carrying any hazardous materials and the crash did not result in any significant spills.

Information about the victim, who was taken from the scene by air ambulance, has not yet been released.
