Fatal shooting caught on tape by surveillance camera

A man who narrowly avoided being struck by a bullet that fatally wounded his friend earlier this week is co-operating with authorities, but hasn’t illuminated a motive for the killing or led police to a suspect.

The witness contacted investigators after 23-year-old Basil Bryan of Toronto was shot to death Tuesday.

The two were walking south along Keele Street, outside an auto body shop near Eglinton Avenue West, when shots rang out around 10:30 p.m.

Zeb Xavier, owner of Zeb Automotive, was shaken yesterday after arriving at work to find police near his store.

He discovered moments later his surveillance camera had caught the shooting on tape.
“It’s pretty graphic,” Xavier said. “It’s crazy.”

While it’s difficult to discern from the video footage how many times the gun was fired, residents reported hearing up to five shots.
