Feed A Need hopes for help this season

Sylvia Spencer moved to Calgary two years ago with just a duffle bag.

Local charity group Feed A Need fully furnished her home and she has been volunteering with the group ever since.

“Everybody helps everybody out, it’s really great,” she said.

Feed A Need was created by Calgarians Al Dhalla and Al Mohammed roughly four years and has largely been fuelled by Mohammed’s $175,000 contribution since.

Now, that well has run dry and the group is in need of assistance, said executive director Wendy Walker.

“It needs an injection of cash,” Walker said. “I am really thinking outside of the box to figure out how I can pull this thing together.”

Walker said Feed A Need has begun to acquire support from local community groups pledging to host bottle drives and other fundraising events; however, things continue to look bleak.

“We’re still going, but it’s been hard,” she said.
