The National Capital Region’s first photography festival fills a gap in the area’s arts community, said the vice-president of Festival X, the Ottawa Photography Festival.

“The region has a rich photographic history going back to at least the Karsh Brothers,” said Francesco Corsaro. The festival, he said, aims to give residents “a greater appreciation of photography and the understanding of the breadth of talent in this city.”

“Photography, in some ways, is regarded as being an underdog in the visual arts community,” said Megan Lafreniere, with Lafreniere Pai Gallery. “This festival really elevates its profile.”
