Festive with a dash of freaky

Ghost, goblins and ghoul decorations can turn your place from blah to boo, but keeping your Halloween decor simple can be just as effective.

“You can decorate in two ways,” says Ann Marie Favot, design editor for Style at Home. “The scary Halloween way, with goblins and ghosts, or decorate just with a black and orange theme, nothing creepy.”

If you’re feeling crafty and you’d like to try the colour theme route, Favot suggests painting jack-o-lantern faces onto pumpkins with watered-down white glue and then sprinkling on black glitter.

“It’s a little bit different. Last year, I got little pumpkins and blackened them with acrylic paint. Crafts have come to a whole different level. They’re not longer only for people who are crafty but for people who want to do something fun.”

By mixing in your own crafty creations with classic fall-themed décor you can stay away from cheesy while still creating that festive feeling.
