All-you-can-eat sushi is the mother of all lunches.

Due to the very nature of the beast, they’re usually pretty unremarkable in quality.

But this one’s worth paying attention to.

Taiko Japanese Restaurant is the latest to serve all-you-can-eat lunch ($13.95).

It’s at a prime location on Denman Street right near the entrance of Stanley Park.

Having just opened a few days ago, it’s still relatively empty, but there’s no shortage of staff.

That’s why it’s puzzling when the food takes its time getting to the table.

It’s worth the wait though. The menu is small but everything’s fresh.

Taiko doesn’t skimp on ingredients. When they say avocado roll, they mean it. Rolls are packed tight with all kinds of goodness.

Sadly because of the wait my plump dynamite roll is cold when it hits the table.

Luckily most sushi is not meant to be warm.

And sitting on their sunny patio that overlooks Stanley Park I can almost forget I’m hungry.
