Ottawa movie lovers get perhaps their only chance to see some acclaimed films from across Europe at the European Union Film Festival, which launched its 25th season Thursday night.
“The essence of the festival and the fun of it is that you can go and see something that’s almost impossible to see, unless you live in Toronto and Montreal where they have the big, big film festivals,” said organizer Tom McSorley. “There’s 26 films this year and probably 24 of them will never see the light of day in Ottawa, so it’s a really great opportunity to catch up on European cinema.”
The festival runs until Dec. 5 in the Auditorium of the Library and Archives Canada. Tickets are $12 or $8 for Canadian Film Institute members, seniors and students. For the first time, advance tickets are available in addition to tickets at the door.
