The list of candidates for city council and school board will be finalized by 2 p.m. Friday — the deadline for entering or withdrawing from any of the races.
As of Thursday evening, 17 people had registered to run for mayor. There are a record number of candidates vying for the 23 council seats. Wards where the current councillor has chosen not to run are among the most popular.
Alex Cullen’s decision to run for mayor prompted several people to sign up to run in Bay Ward before he chose to seek re-election instead.
Ten people have signed up to replace Rideau-Rockcliffe Coun. Jacques Legendre, and Gord Hunter’s decision to vacate his seat in Knoxdale-Merivale led to nine candidates signing up to replace him.
