Rexall Place will be the centre of Western attention next week as cowboys get geared up for an event some are calling "the greatest indoor show on Earth."

The 34th edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo will give cowboys a chance at roping their share of a $1.158-million prize purse once the five-day event kicks off on Wednesday.

New entertainment acts will be offered each night during the rodeo, including a performance by the Edmonton Police Service K-9 unit on Wednesday.

There will also be wild pony races during two matinee shows in the afternoon and the always-entertaining Cowboy Poker is set for Friday and Saturday night.

"The CFR is more than just steer wrestling or bull riding," said Northlands volunteer director Earl Klapstein in a release.

"It’s about community and experiences. It’s an event the entire city can get behind and enjoy — so come out and be a part of this great event."
